Prayer and the Book of Revelation

The Book of Revelation reveals Jesus’ heart, power and leadership. There are 30 specific descriptions of Jesus, His majesty, ministry and personality in Revelation 1-3. If we read it with a devotional spirit, it will cause us to trust and adore Jesus.

After reading the book of Revelation, we can apply these truths to our lives in 3 ways according to the acronym A-R-K:

Agreement: Make declarations of agreement to Jesus about who He is and what He does. We declare each truth back to Jesus with affection and gratitude.

Revelation: Pray for increased revelation of each description.

Keep the Prophecy: Resolve to keep each of the thirty truths by responding in faith and obedience to each truth in our actions and attitudes, and by asking for the Spirit’s help to be faithful.

Here is a list that I put together with the help of Mike Bickle’s notes. Jesus describes Himself in 24 distinct ways in Rev. 1-3, giving us 18 descriptions in Rev. 1 and 16 in Rev. 2-3, for a total of 34 descriptions. However, since 10 are used in both Rev. 1 and Rev. 2-3, we end up with 24 distinct descriptions. Jesus gives 8 descriptions in Rev. 1 that are not mentioned in Rev. 2-3 and 6 descriptions in Rev. 2-3 not mentioned in Rev. 1. (The below is listed from the New King James Version.)

  • Faithful Witness (Rev. 1:5)
  • Firstborn of the dead (Rev. 1:5)
  • Ruler of the kings of the earth (Rev. 1:5)
